Final Fantasy XI OnlinePicked it up today. It's still updating, but I think I'm gonna love it. More obsession as things progress.

Still updating... According to this, there are still 5 hours to go.
|
Kavi

Five HOURS??
It better be worth waiting for then

It still looks better than World of Warcraft's install/update time.

Never played WOW, heard it was waaay too addicting (and my pages are lading uber slow -_-)

Mine are loading slow too. I thought it was the update hogging my connection, but maybe it's the myfastforum server.
I never really got addicted to WoW. Maybe it was because some jerk kept stealing my kills while I was trying to finish that quest. My friend is pretty into it, however.
He kept attacking the guy I was targetting as I was charging my fireball.

That's what friends are for
I am tempted to close my other windows, but that would mean stopping work on the paper, and I really, really shouldn't.......

I just realized it's only on the "downloading files" stage, with 4 hours left. This might take the rest of the night. (Or morning, it's 1:00 here now.)

You're crazy, and sleep deprived, you really should hit the sack

*|UPDATE|*
It took about 45 minutes to install the game and expansions, then about half an hour to set up an account with their "Play Online Viewer" so I could play the game. Then it took about five hours to update (Possibly due to poor wireless conection.) Creating my character only took about a minute due to lack of choices.
Once I got into the game, I didn't know anything. Reading the manual (on a disc) would've been a good idea. It took me 2 or 3 minutes to find the move button. After that, things were pretty straight forward and after about 10 minutes of wandering through town, talking to NPCs, I decided to look at the map and find the exit from town.
So far, I've only killed about 12 monsters, but I am already enjoying the game and my level 2 Black Mage! ^^
So, six and a half hours to start up, but I think it's gonna be worth it!
Graphics are pretty good. It's like what you'd see in Final Fantasy 8, but it plays like Final Fantasy 12 (only without the lines bouncing between each character whenever someone switches target.)
I hope you all enjoy my little update, I'm gonna go play some more!

Awesome! I think we should make you the official game reviewer
Sounds like a blast, well worth the super long wait. Hope you have fun!

Well, I tweaked around the graphics settings, and now it looks much better! The game is great. My character is a level 4 black mage, and a level 2 monk. Once I unlock dual class I can be both at once!
Everything is really expensive, but that's not too much of a problem. In Final Fantasy 1, Potions started at 100 Gil and spells went from 500 into thousands. In 11, the cheapest spell I've found was 92 Gil, and basic potions cost 946 Gil. Also, it upsets me that black mages seem to barely get any equipment at all! In the town I decided to start in, there are no weapons or armor for sale (even at a very high price) that a black mage can use.
|
Kavi
|
Aww, that stinks
You can play both chars at once? Awesome!
I am happy to see that this new addiction isn't interfearing with your old ones xD

Looked it up on the internet, you unlock Dual Class when you get one class up to level 18, and you unlock more than the first six classes when one gets to level 30. Being a level 4 black mage with no party, this could take a while. I did the first quest in the town I chose to start in. I got lost in a mine for 20 minutes.

Wandering around underground in the dark..... gee Tyto, who does that sound like?
Yeah being in a party helps a lot, otherwise leveling is SO hard, but if you have waaay too much time on your hands, well, that helps too

I deleted my mage and started a theif instead. MUCH EASIER TO LEVEL!
|
Kavi
|
So that's why you're not around the forum,
Sweet! Thieves are better then mages:D and much cooler, though you probably can't blast things with black magic anymore..... but you can be sneaky now right?

Yay for level six theives! I've got a steal command now, which I can use once every five minutes. I stole a fishing rod from a goblin! I also bought my first piece of armor for about 250 Gil. It's a little better than what I started with.
|
Kavi
|
There's just something about that steal command xD
Glad you're having fun, already level 6? are you still eating and sleeping?
|
64Cheese
|
I've only been getting 8 hours of sleep a day. This school thing is messing me up. It is so hard to do anything in this game! But I love it. I'm not sure I've figured out how the fishing works yet.
|
Kavi
|
ONLY 8 Hours?? Are you kidding me? xD You realize that's a good healthy amount?
**Mutters "I am not going to sound insanly old and harp on that...."***
So no fish eh? there's this thing called casting, and then reeling....
|
64Cheese

Yes, and there's this thing called, "we're not fishing for 6-inch trout." There's casting, then reeling, then line snapping.
|
Kavi
|
Line snapping? You poor poor thing
